Rosa
Martinez is an art critic and independent curator, based in Barcelona,
where she got her bachelors degree in Art History.
She
was co-curator of Manifesta 1 (Rotterdam,1996) and artistic director of
the 5th International Istanbul Biennial (1997), the 3rd International SITE
Santa Fe (Santa Fe, New Mexico,1999), and the Biennial EVA 2000 (Limerick,
Ireland). In 2000 she co-curated the 2nd Busan Biennial at the Metropolitan
Museum of Busan (Korea) and the exhibition "Living and Working in Vienna"
at the Kunsthalle Wien. Currently she is international adviser for the
2nd Echigo-Tsumari Triennial (Japan, 2003) and artistic director and promoter
of the Kathmandu Project (Nepal). She is also curator of the Spanish Pavilion
at the Venice Biennale 2003.
Among
her most significant projects in Barcelona are: the artistic direction
of the Barcelona Biennial (1988-1991) and the curatorship of la Caixa Foundation's
Sala Montcada for two seasons (1991-92 / 1997). She was
also
director of the curatorial training programme "Passion and Ennui in Contemporary
Art" organised by la Caixa Foundation (1996-1997) and co-curator of "Trans
Sexual Express Barcelona 2001" at Santa Monica Art Center, a touring show
travelling to Kunsthalle Muecsarnok (Budapest, Hungary) and Kiosko Alfonso
(La Coruna, Spain) during 2002. From 1998 to 2002 she was curator of the
International Project Rooms at ARCO, the Contemporary Art Fair in Madrid.
Rosa
Martinez has been guest lecturer at many museums, universities and international
art centers; she is a regular contributor to various art magazines and
she is the author of many essays about contemporary artists.
