| Special
Honorary AICA HELLAS Award |
To
Jannis Kounellis for his active and crucial
contribution to the contemporary intellectual
life and the art scene in Greece and internationally,
and in recognition of the special importance
of his work as presented in his solo exhibition
at the Attis Theatre in 2005, which showcased
art as a critical life attitude towards the
contemporary culture.
To
Nikos Navridis for his work 18:
Beckett – Breath 2005, presented in the 51st Biennale
of Venice at the Arsenale in 2005.
As it was unanimously decided by the jury,
the work 18: Beckett – Breath 2005 was an outstanding
example of spiritual stance and a sophisticated
use of the new media of the artistic language,
which attracted the international audience’s
interest for its enticing quality and established
Nikos Navridis among the most noteworthy contemporary
artists internationally.
The monetary prize of €7,000 that comes with
the 2007 AICA HELLAS Award is sponsored by
the J F Costopoulos Foundation.
-
To Leda Papaconstantinou for her 2006 exhibition
of works from 1969–2004 at Bei Hamam (Paradisos
Baths) in Thessaloniki.
The exhibition at Bei Hamam made skilful
use of the interaction between image and
space and demonstrated the artist’s long
and important contribution to the development
of pioneering forms of expression, particularly
in the fields of performance and the poetic
use of the body, and made for a fascinating
experience for the viewer.
-
To Rena Papaspyrou for her solo exhibition
Total visibility blinds me at the “Gazon
Rouge” Gallery in Athens, 2006.
This exhibition refreshes her consistent
and fertile quest around the use of the act
of painting as a means of balancing out the
conceptual and physical aspects of the artwork,
while the use of the image as a repeated
motif broadens our visual perception of space
in an impressive way.
-
To Nikos Charalambidis for the work Social
Gym #336, shown in the 27th Biennale of Sao
Paulo in 2006.
His acute critical approach to his constant
exploration of political and cultural parameters,
which proposes art as an unlimited, universal
field of action for subverting the dominant
aesthetic norms in contemporary culture,
was condensed in a panegyric spirit in the
multimedia installation he presented in the
27th Biennale of Sao Paulo.
| Commendation
to a Young Artist |
The
Commendation to a Young Artist was awarded
to Panayotis Loukas for the series of works
he presented in the solo exhibition Nihilistic
Decoration in Hamburg in 2005.
In his work Panayotis Loukas makes consistent
use of the individual’s imaginary as a source
of a personal vocabulary and promotes the destabilisation
of a conventional reading of things.
